A Scottish Hair & Beauty Awards gong
Glasgow's Crowne Plaza was transformed into a sea of shimmer, sequins and spray tan for the 2nd Annual Scottish Hair and Beauty Awards. And it was one of these glass teardrop gongs, seen here above, that everyone wanted to get their hands on. Beauticians, hairdressers, nail technicians, stylists, salons and spas were amongst the 18 nomination groups. And me - nominated in the Beauty Guru category *cough splutter* alongside some serious industry heavyweights in the form of Jennifer Cheyne, the lady behind the Edinburgh hairdressing chain, and the eventual winner, Fake Bake's Sandra McClumpha.
Nominees and guests were treated to entertainment by none other than Tallia Storm who counts Elton John amongst her friends, and Britian's Got Talent winner Jai McDowall. Tallia looked amazing with another show-stopping hair-do and white structured dress but to be honest, Jai could have done with ditching the jeans and dialling up the glamour for the event.

I met such a great bunch of people including the lovely ladies from Dune Hairdressers in Edinburgh. The salon's owner, Kelly Doherty was up for two awards, winning the Salon of the Year in the South East division. Kelly, seen here below on the right, says,
"This was completely unexpected. We were up against big salons in Edinburgh so I wasn't expecting to win. But I'm so delighted and can't believe it."

As well as meeting new people, the event was a great opportunity to meet old Twitter friends, including the lovely lot at Bespoke Hair and Beauty who are based in Laurencekirk. The team, led by owners, and sisters, Gail Craig and Kirsty McBath, picked up the Beauty Salon of the year award. Owner Gail says,
"We can't believe it. Especially since the salon has only been open since October 2011, it's amazing. I came top of my college course in beauty and Kirsty was top in hair, so in the end it made sense for the two of us to open our own salon. We've got a great team and it's been a great night."

Taking place in the the hotel's Argyll Suite, the table plan looked like it had taken some serious planning. At our table, were the lovely girls from H.I.M salon in Edinburgh, where Julie Douglas was nominated for male stylist of the year, and Siobhan Clark, from Koda Salon who was nominated for colour tehnician of the year. There were plenty of nerves when our categories' came up but we were all celebrating win or lose.

All in all, it was a great night and the only recommendation I could think of would be to include male grooming categories. Roll on next year.
