My summer makeup and the difference between CC and BB creams

Like most people, my summer makeup look is lighter than in the cooler months. And to achieve that look, I dial down my base products which is why Origins latest product, Smarty Plants, has become one of my makeup bag essentials this season.

Smarty Plants - or to give it it's full title, SmartyPlants CC SPF20 Skin Complexion Corrector is out now and I've been testing this product out to give you, dear Scottish Beauty Blog readers, the low-down.

We've had BB creams or beauty balms by the truck load with every brand launching their version. Those products moisturised and primed skin often with tint.

This year brands are moving up the alphabet this year with CC creams - also called complexion correctors. But what's the difference from last year's must-have BB creams?

Its clear container full of a buttermilk yellow substance looked so alluring and I always wanted to get my hands on but thankfully I wasn't yet not tall enough to reach. Times have moved on, but Clinique's Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion has remained the same- for fifth decades unchanged and unaltered. Until now.

The Skin Guru - the lady behind a Scottish skincare brand

SkinGuru is a Scottish skincare brand that counts supermodel Kirsty Hume amongst its fans. I was recently introduced to it and found the hydrating mist so effective this summer, I mentioned it in my Edinburgh Evening News beauty column.

Edinburgh Hairdressers are finalists at British Hairdressing Business Awards

Edinburgh hairdresser Hair by JFK is one of the finalists for this year's British Hairdressing Business Awards. The chain, which has salons in the capital's Bruntsfield and Newington areas, is one of two Scottish salons heading to London for the glitzy finals in September.

Hair By JFK is nominated in the Marketing category alongisde five other finalists. And clients of the salon don't just get to be pampered - they can take their pooches along too. Hairdressing Icons - George Paterson

It’s the chance to revisit the work of one of Scotland’s hairdressing icons, the creative force behind the Edinburgh based hairdresser Paterson SA – George Paterson. He was a leading light in the hairdressing industry, founding the captial-based chain in 1988. He pushed the boundaries with each of his collections and over the course of his glittering career he won numerous awards including Scottish Hairdresser of the Year and the British Hairdressing Business Award 13 times.
