Benefit Cosmetics in Edinburgh at the Fringe

This is a set of wheels I wouldn't mind getting my hands on. Dubbed the Benebus, it's pretty, it's pink,  and it's packed full of Benefit beauty goodies. And the good news is that it's heading to Edinburgh. That's because the bright beauty brand is supporting the Funny Women comedy show during it's Edinburgh Fringe Festival stint. Beauty products and a giggle? What's not to love about that combination. The show, which will be at Bosco-Assembly in George Square, has seen talent like Sarah Millican through it's doors and now it's celebrating its tenth anniversary in the Scottish capital.

St Tropez Fake Tan with Cheynes

St Tropez Fake Tan with CheynesCheaper than the price of a holiday and with just the same result, fake tan is a summer skin cheat which, as well was being healthier for your wallet, is also safer for your skin. That's because by faking it, you can avoid the dangers of the sun such as skin cancer, wrinkles and hyper pigmentation.

And when it comes to the fake tan industry, St Tropez is one the heavyweights. Launched in 1996, there's now some 30 products to choose from, including a sun protection range and Illuminators. And then there's the recently released Dark range. Launched earlier this year, it's become a best-seller for the brand, as men and women opt for sun-kissed skin the safe way. Where the original self tan range was more golden, the new Dark collection, offers a stronger holiday glow. Designed to mimic the skin's natural melanin, it contains Vegetan Premium, which is what helps give that fresh-from-holiday glow. And it also features Aromaguard™ which promises to stop that tell-tale self tan smell by up to 70%. But before you say The Only Way Is Essex, the Dark range still gives a natural tan; think two weeks in the Caribbean, rather than two weeks in France. And it's all without having to fork out for the holiday abroad or pack a case. So none of the airport drama and expense of going away; that's a winning combination in my book. And faking it can be a great look for a wedding, a party, or even a pick-me-up to escape from the lack of a Scottish sunshine.

Waxing in Glasgow -nkd

The ladies of waxing salon nkd are out to prove me wrong. They reckon that waxing can be pain-free. Because let's face it, whilst fuzz-free skin is a must-do for summer, constant shaving is a bit of a bore. Waxing, on the other hand, can leave you smooth and stubble-free for up to three weeks. So I'm told. You see, I have a confession. When it comes to waxing, I am something of a baby. The last time I set foot in a waxing salon, I'm pretty sure Bros were in the charts, and to be totally truthful, I'm not entirely sure I even made it through my appointment. But, the lovely staff at the Glasgow branch of waxing specialists nkd reckon they can change my opinion. So I decided to man up and try it.

Face contouring with Illamasqua

Face contouring is big news. Not heard of it? Well, it's a makeup technique that can literally change your entire face. Just look at the jaw-dropping work of Nepalese-born makeup artist,  Promise Tamang Phan. The 22-year-old is an internet sensation who, thanks to her contouring skills, can transform herself from Angelina Jolie and Kim Kardashian to Johnny Depp and Michael Jackson all with the dab of a brush - more of that later. But even if you don't want to change your entire face, contouring is a great way to modify the shape and highlight.

After I interviewed Illamasqua makeup artist, Mika Johnson, I was invited to meet the talented 25-year-old at the brand's counter in Glasgow Debenhams store where Mika was doing a series of makeup master classes, including one on highlighting and contouring. And where Promise's contouring can make her look like someone else entirely, Mika showed how to use it to achieve the best results, whilst still looking like yourself.
